Typically how it works (did 2 chapters in Macroeconomics, so this post is going to be pretty limited as far as big-worded political shit):
There are "cycles" of spending and saving that keep our economy working the way it should be. Democrats tend to be "savers", with generally raised taxes and cut funding for extras (programs and shit like that). Republicans tend to lean more to the side of "spenders", lowering taxes but giving handouts more freely for government-sponsored programs.
As it stands right now (I'm ridiculously simplifying this), we need a Democratic "saving" patch to help aid our plummeting economy as for the last 8 years we've had a Republican ("spender") president. Although our House (the people that initiate and regulate any spending done by our government) has been Democratically controlled since '06, the (republican) Pres and (mostly republican) Congress still has saying power in what shit gets passed and what doesn't.
I'll say again, I don't care how much taxes I pay, I have a problem with my taxes being a transfer payment from me to Laqueesha who decided she didn't want to work. Fuck them, fuck their 3 kids, Fuck their pathetic welfare supported existence. Go out and get a job for christ sakes.
Glad my taxes bought Laqueesha her tv when there are levies breaking in New Orleans and bridges collapsing in Minneapolis. Gokes Gokesybutton Furbytoo Xaanali Zaan
i would prefer not to be taxed more. and while all the candidates tend to fudge the truth, holy crap biden lied more than anyone i've seen in a debate. he might as well have said mccain eats children, because that had just as much truth and was along the same lines as the things he actually said.
You're aware that voting for Obama would mean LESS taxes than McCain unless you're in the top 1% of earners, right?
that's what obama would like you to think. The caveat there is, INCOME tax. As for other taxes, well, that's a completely different story. But, on the subject of income taxes...
with mccain, 99.9% of everyone in the US will either see ZERO increase in taxes, OR will get a tax cut. With obama, 90% of everyone in the US will see either ZERO increase in taxes, or will see a tax cut. however: 10% will see taxes go up. Now yes, McCain wants to give bigger tax cuts to richer people, but so does every republican. But the reality is, what is better for americans in terms of tax cuts?
Now, let's break that down further.
Under Obama, 7.7% of singles OR families making $19,000 or less will see a tax increase. Under Mcain, 0% of singles OR families making $19,000 or less will see a tax increase. Under Obama, 8.4% of singles OR families making between $19,000 and $38,000 will see a tax increase. Under McCain, 0.1% of singles OR families making between $19,000 and $38,000 will see a tax increase. Under Obama, 5.7% of singles OR families making between $38,000 and $66,000 will see a tax increase. Under McCain, 0.1% of singles OR families making between $38,000 and $66,000 will see a tax increase. Under Obama, 12.1% of singles OR families making between $66,000 and $111,000 will see a tax increase. Under McCain, 0% of singles OR families making between $66,000 and $111,000 will see a tax increase.
So, while i may not see as BIG of a tax cut under McCain, I think it's a better solution not to raise ANYONE's taxes, unlike Mr. Obama wants to do. --sidenote: one of the greatest ironies i find in this, is that most college kids say they'll vote for obama, and one of the biggest reasons they state is because he'll lower taxes. the irony being, under obama's plan, your average college student and college grad's taxes will go up.
Also, many of you saw Mr. Biden repeatedly saying "McCain wants to give 4 billion in tax cuts to Exxon Oil". he even went on later to say that these tax cuts for big oil were in a bill all their own that he just wanted to give them. Au contraire.... McCain wants to cut taxes from 35% to 25% for ALL BUSINESSES. A bunch of democrats decided to estimate how much this would be for oil companies, and came up with this 4 billion figure. And well, you played the phone game when you were a kid, so you know how it goes. Every time someone says it, it gets embellished a bit more. source: http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/obamas_overstatement.html
In addition, Obama wants to raise taxes for corporations and businesses that make over $250,000 a year, all the while saying he wants to help middle americans get back on track. But the question you have to ask yourself is, who does tax increases for corporations really hurt? Who does Obama thinks works for these corporations? That's right, middle americans.
Businesses and Corporations are already mostly seeing no change or losses in their net profits, due to the slow economy. Raising the taxes of these businesses means cuts need to be made to maintain a profit margin acceptable to shareholders and execs. I can gaurantee you they are not going to cut down the salaries of these big execs as much as we'd love that to be the case. Instead, what happens is middle americans' jobs will be cut, exacerbating the problem. People losing jobs is not how I see us "getting middle americans back on track".
My point here is, both candidates have half truths and false statements they have made. No one should take anything any of these candidates say at face value. People need to research for themselves to find out as much truth as they can in their statements. Unfortunately Obama's campaign is REALLY laying the crap on thick, and it's very misleading.
I urge people to really research and decide for themselves, regardless of who they choose to vote for. If you say you're going to vote for Obama, be sure you can answer why if someone asks. And your reasons should be facts that you have researched, rather than taken Obama's word for. And if you say you're voting for McCain, be sure y ou can answer why if someone asks. Again, with reasons you researched rather than taking McCain's word for it.
Every presidential candidate for the past 30 years promised to lower taxes to middle class people and it never happened.
It's a huge lie.
In terms of who I'm voting for, neither.
bush lowered everyone's taxes. this tax lowering bill expires i think in 2010, and McCain wants to renew it or lower more taxes, while Obama wants to let it expire, and completely redo it. Hence why some people's taxes go up in my previous post I linked.
I'll say again, I don't care how much taxes I pay, I have a problem with my taxes being a transfer payment from me to Laqueesha who decided she didn't want to work. Fuck them, fuck their 3 kids, Fuck their pathetic welfare supported existence. Go out and get a job for christ sakes.

this is a large part of why i also do not want to vote for obama. he also has been playing with the idea of his "national government healthcare plan" providing healthcare to the children of illegal immigrants. that's right. illegal immigrant children would get free healthcare paid for by US citizens.
he has gone back and forth a bit on this, but in his final health care plan, it does NOT provide exclusion for immigrants, and instead provides for "continued experimentation" in terms of who is covered.
