Newegg is starting their end-of-year clearance this week.
They have their EVGA 9800GTX cards listed at $149.99 with free shipping. Definitely a great time to take advantage of buying 2 (or more, lol) of them for SLI'ing it up. I just bought my 2nd 8800GTS about 2 months ago, and I'm somewhat low on funds atm.. otherwise I'd already have an order placed for 2, heh.
Obviously they have more than just the 9800s for cheap; powersupplies, flash drives, external hdds, etc as well.
question for anyone that may know... if i have a SLI supported mobo, and already have a 6800GS... would getting a 9800gt+ and using SLI work with the old 6800GS? Or would the 6800gs be negated completely?
You can probably SLI both of them, but each card will only operate as fast as the slower of the 2 (in other words, your 9800 will only perform as fast as the 6800 if you SLI them).
That's the one; apparently it's marked down to $159.99 (w/ free shipping) for everyone .. and you get an extra $10 off if you subscribe to Newegg's Newsletter for the $149.99 cost. Either way, still a good deal.. If anyone is planning on buying one of the cards, I can give you my redemption code for the extra 10 bucks off -- I'm not gonna be using it, heh.
and lol, I like how they have a limit of 99 per customer.
Edit: Also, you CANNOT SLI 2 different cards; they have to be EXACTLY the same. For instance, you couldn't have an EVGA 8800GTX and a BFG 8800GTX running in SLI even though they are the same model. With ATi Crossfiring, you can mix and match brands (so you could do the previous example), but still can't have 2 different cards. The most 'difference' you can have between the cards for SLI is clock speed; if two cards are clocked differently, it will pick the lower clocked card and run those settings for both cards.
Huh? you can SLI two different video cards? news to me, I would double check that
Yeah you're right, it's the clock speeds that can be different, but they really should be the same card.
The one nice thing about evga cards is if you buy one and a better one comes out within 90 days of purchase you can send in your old one, pay the difference and get the new one.
